Philip L. DeCamara, Jr. Scholarship

(University of Maryland)

In 1984, the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA) established the Philip L. DeCamara, Jr. Scholarship to honor a man who used his creative talents during his lifetime to advance the goals of the fire sprinkler industry. Today, the scholarship is sponsored jointly by AFSA and the Center for Life  Safety Education (CLSE). The scholarship, which is awarded at the University of Maryland, DeCamara’s alma mater, assists students who enter the fire protection engineering program to pursue their dreams. The DeCamara scholarship is funded through donations by individuals and companies.

Award:

Two scholarships are awarded annually - a first place scholarship of $4,000 and second place scholarship of $3,000.

Eligibility:

Eligible applicants for the DeCamara Scholarship must be Juniors or Seniors enrolled in the Fire Protection Engineering program at the University of Maryland.

Application and Deadline:

Thomas S. Waller Memorial Scholarship

(Oklahoma State University)

This memorial scholarship is named for an industry leader who devoted more than 40 years to the fire protection industry.  Passionate about the industry, Tom Waller was dedicated to the value of education, and was determined in his efforts to provide educational opportunities for young people.  After his death in 2005, the American Fire Sprinkler Association decided that the best way to honor his memory would be to establish a scholarship in his name, and the scholarship is sponsored jointly by AFSA and the Center for Life Safety Education. The Waller Scholarship is funded through donations by individuals and companies.

Award:

One scholarship for $4,000 is awarded annually.

Eligibility:

Eligible applicants for the Thomas S. Waller Memorial Scholarship must be Juniors or Seniors and enrolled in the Fire Protection & Safety Technology program in the College of Engineering, Architecture & Technology at Oklahoma State University.

Application and Deadline:
